Chabad Bat Mitzvah at The Family Shul in Chelsea Manhattan New York NYC

When people ask how I am so good at my job, sometimes I will be honest- I'm a crazy Gemini. I like to take what's happening in the moment in, think positive, and when things need to change go and don't think about how things would be if they were different. It helps a lot. Example I always prefer outdoor photos and many of my clients hire me for my outdoor photos. Sometimes a wedding or event will suddenly rain and everything will be inside at the last minute. I say OK and go. I would move everything inside, set up my indoor lights, and think about how great it is that I can control the light when I’m inside. The final result will be beautiful indoor photos. A little of that crazy was needed for this.

I had a block out of my schedule for the month of February to travel to Israel. A whole month!!! I was going to be back a few days before some jobs I had booked for Purim (Jewish Halloween). Then a SUPER close friend Gilli asked me to photograph her daughter's Bar Mitzvah. I told her I have a trip, I wont be mad if you hire someone else. Gilli said it was ok, but then later told me Risha was sad I wasn't there. I’m a softy and I had to show up for this amazing kid.

Risha is one of the kindest girls you will ever meet. Twelve can sometimes be a hard age, new braces alone (ouch) and Risha does everything with grace. She’s the oldest of 7 kids. Sometimes being the oldest can mean having more responsibilities than other siblings and Risha always does them no hesitation. On top of this she is a good friend to every single girl in her Bat mitzvah class. When they meet for class, there is always a new silly thing to laugh at.  Risha is there being polite and kind with all the girls and teachers.

I had to change my trip around. I was on hold on the phone with EL AL and changed the ticket. I was to leave the day immediately after Risha’s Bat Mitzvah and come back the morning of Purim for my first Purim work event. I packed my suitcase with everything in advance. I photographed Risha’s Bat Mitzvah, stayed up all night editing her Mitzvah so I wouldn't risk not being able to work on them in Israel. My dad drove me to JFK the next day and everything was done for Risha before I got security. I had a fantastic time in Israel. My Purim jobs went great, and everyone ended up with beautiful photos. The crazy-Gemini energy did what it does best.
